Problems

 There is no ecological awareness of waste disposal and household waste is discarded in forests and rivers ; this includes both degradable and non degradable waste (plastic etc.)

  The toilets of Dzongsar Buddhist junior school located in the village are situated by the river. Human waste drops into the river . There is no water in any of the households and the water from the river is used for everyday purposes (cleaning, washing, drinking, cooking etc.)

 Risks

Gaps in knowledge of basic sanitary and environmental precautions poses a threat to the eco system.

The problem above causes major health problems and if no action is taken in the future the problem will worsen and local people as well as tourists will face growing health risks.

It is difficult to imagine  local tourism growing under these circumstances of poor sanitation, lack of cleanliness and bad smells.

 Needs

   Promoting students’ and adults’ awareness of basic environmental and sanitary standards

  Orgainising a cleaning-up of the region

   Organising household waste management : bins (approx. 120) will be placed in the villages streets, schools and other strategic locations in the region

   Organising and managing waste collection and  disposal

 Ensuring local management of the facilities in place

   Building toilets that comply with necessary standards of sanitation (water, electricity, sewage )
   Cleaning the river banks
