Dzongsar Tibetan traditional primary school

 Problems

There is only one Tibetan school in the Dzongsa region . Children from nomadic families and the most impoverished families attend the school. The medium of instruction is Tibetan and only a few subjects are taught :

There are only 2 teachers for 111 pupils

The medium of instruction is Tibetan but there are hardly any books and other resources in the school

The school building is run down and it is dangerous to hold classes there. When the weather is good , classes are held in a tent, otherwise there is no class. Dzongsar is approx. 4000metres above sea level.

Renovating the school building hosted in the monastery would be too expensive and not adequate as there is little light, the classroom is small and there are no facilities (toilets, water etc)

 Risks

If the primary school is not rebuilt adequately for the needs of the children, the chidren will have no education and no future. They will have no opportunity to play a part in the unavoidable economic development of the region in the coming years.

 Needs

Building a new primary school : 5 classrooms ; a kitchen with water ; a furnished dining hall with heating ; toilets that comply with required necessary standards of sanitation

Providing elementary pedagogic resources. The resources will help to learn Tibetan but also Chinese, which is essential for social integration

Increasing the number of qualified teachers and  of subjects taught in order to help more-abled children to continue their studies after primary schooling

Ensuring that children who travel far to get to school receive  a balanced diet and are provided with a safe environment
